Tihany-Sajkod is the experimental site of Pannon University's gene preservation program. Different fig species & Balaton upland's typical fruits are demonstrated in the former lemon plantation.
Tihany-Sajkod is the the less noisy part of the peninsula but lot of people walk along there. They are watching curiously the small terraced estate surrounded by fence and stone bastion.
Nowadays is known by few that this place has legendary past. In the 50's here was one of experimental site where was tried the cultivation of citrus fruits. The warm spots of the country was searched for instructions of party where mediterranean plant species was planted.
One of them was Tihany-Sajkod.
The program obviously has failed. It has proven that Hungary won't be world power in lemon growing.
The location was chosen very well by former experts because the climate in Sajkod is very favorable. There is a covert south-southwest bay surrounded by Balatonudvari's, Örvényes's & Aszőfő's hills and "Csúcs-Mountain". The large surface of Lake Balaton is heating the area.
Its excellent soil contains braun forest soil mixed with tufa which is suitable for plantation of mediterranean species. However, the weather condtion is extreme in this area. In winter can occur really cold. In this condition not only the lemon plantation but once the fig plantation has frozen.
Péter Bacsó's 'The Witness' movie presents this fallen experiment in a funny scene.
Known as the best satire about communism, 'The Witness' (1969) has become a cult classic.

Special notes for stages:
Stage 1:
Find a red metal plate behind table of map with two numbers. See the underneath: write down last 3 digits (=A)
Walk along the promenade to the lemon plantation.
Stage 2:
You will see seventeen boards that illustrate the area's fauna. Your task is to collect the arabic numbers from boards of BIRDS (15 pieces). Add together these numbers (6 digits number=B).
Stage 3:
Do this math:
4218254 + A + B = LATitude of the cache
1315376 + A + B = LONgitude of the cache
The cache contains logbook and pen! You don't have to enter to closed area to find the cache!

Génmegőrzési program helyszíne a Pannon Egyetem kísérleti telephelye Sajkodon. Az egykori citromosban fügefajtákat és a
Balaton-felvidék jellegzetes gyümölcsfajtáit mutatják be.
Tihany-Sajkod a félsziget kevésbé zajos fele, de sokan sétálnak erre a parton, vagy vesznek részt a Balaton-felvidéki Nemzeti Park Igazgatóság
különböző ökoprogramjain.
Az errejárók kíváncsian nézegetik a teraszos kiképzésű kis birtokot, melyet kerítés és kő bástyafal zár el a látogatók elől.
Ma már kevesen tudják, hogy a területnek legendás múltja van: az ötvenes években itt volt az egyik citromos, vagyis az a kísérleti telep, amelyen megpróbáltak citrusféléket nevelni. Pártutasításra megkeresték az ország úgynevezett melegpontjait, ahol mediterrán növényfajokat telepítettek, az egyik ilyen volt Tihany-Sajkod.
A program természetesen kudarcba fulladt: bebizonyosodott, hogy nem leszünk citromtermesztő világhatalom.
A helyszínt jól választották ki az akkori kollégák, hiszen Sajkod klímája nagyon kedvező, védett, déli,dél-nyugati öblözet, melyet a balatonudvari, örvényesi, aszófői dombok, a Csúcshegy óv, a Balaton nagy vízfelülete fűt, kiváló termőföldje tufával kevert barna erdőtalaj, vagyis alkalmas mediterrán növények termesztésére. Időjárási viszonyai azonban szélsőségesek, télen kemény hideg is előfordul, ami nem csak a citromost, de egy ízben az egyetem fügeültetvényét is elfagyasztotta.
Bacsó Péter A tanú (1969) cimű filmje egyik vicces jelenetében emlékezik meg erről az elbukott kisérletről.
A méltán klasszikus film a legjobb szatíra ami készült a kommunista rendszerről.

Helyszín 1:
Keress a térkép táblája mögött egy piros fémlapot két számmal. Írd fel az alsó szám utolsó 3 számjegyét.(=A)
Sétálj végig a part menti sétányon az egykori ültetvényig.
Helyszín 2:
Útközben 17 táblát fogsz látni a környék élővilágáról. Gyűjtsd össze az arab számokat (15db) a MADARAS táblákról. Add össze őket (6 számjegyű szám=B).
Helyszín 3:
Végezd el a számítást:

1315376 + A + B = geoláda hosszúsági fok
A geoládában toll és logbook is van. Nem kell bemenned a zárt területre a geoláda megkereséséhez.
