The Steppes Hall - a familiar stopoff on the way to the lakes for many anglers - celebrated its centenary on Saturday 12th November 2011
The St Luke’s Anglican Church was built in 1911 and was acentre of social activity as much as a place of worship.
The part of the hall containing the altar could be shutoff when a social event was being held. Dances wereheld a couple of times a year with people travellingfrom as far away as Deloraine to attend
A new interpretative display, which incorporates the history of the Highlands including: the integral part played by The Steppes. It provides an account of the interesting history, the characters and significant events of the past 100 years and more.
It is worth taking the time to stop and view the display next time you are heading to or from the Central Plateau and Lakes and the added bonus of a cache to hunt down.
There is good parking available there is easy and access to the interpretive display.
