MAINTENANCE/MORE CACHES ON JULY THE 12. MORE CACHES ON THE SALISBURY SIDE AND AROUND WINTERSLOW. SORRY FOR THIS BEING VERY CACHE-VOID AREAS. CWC IS STILL IN BETA FORM. ALL BONUS NUMBERS ARE OUT THOUGH!
IF YOU ARE WALKING AND YOU SEE A BROKEN CACHE, PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO REPLACE IT!! I WILL BE ETERNALLY GRATEFUL!
Welcome to Claredon Way walk! A 27 Mile spectacular from Winchester Cathedral to Salisbury Cathedral. More detail about the Clarendon Way can be found at the Hants website. The direction to each cache from the last will be in Summary so if you ever get lost, follow The Mitre sign signpost along the route.
Equipment to bring: DEFINATLY A PAIR OF TWEEZERS!!!
and if you're feeling nice, a black permanent marker pen to rewrite any bonus numbers which have been rubbed off.
PARKING: You can park anywhere anywhere around here. St. Swithun's Street for example...?
(A slight hint for multi's, so if you don't want a slight spoiler, don't read this bit...) All the caches, apart from the Bonus, are on the Way. No diversions. Most caches are Trad. and some Multi's (easy ones though) and quite easy finds. The Way is also generally flat but not Wheelchair accesible, sorry...
This walk will take the best part of a day, so if you are considering doing in a day, start early, bring lunch and prepare to be quite late back home. There are some pubs along the way, in Broughton, Winterslow, Kings Somborne and so on. Also there are post offices and shops in those big villages. B&Bs are also on the routes so if you are going to stop over for a night, there are a few dotted around.
Of course, bring water, wellies in case it's muddy and a spare pair of socks if it is raining.
Each cache is a 25ml Tube or the 2ml Flip Top Tubes. I will try and put the caches in waterproof areas so the logs arent constantly soaked.
BONUS: There is, of course, a Bonus :). In order to find this hidden treasure, you must collect 15 numbers dotted around the caches. The numbers come in the A=4, B=3 format (not the right numbers by the way :D) and the 15 numbers will give you the coordiantes for the Bonus cache, which is (as a helpful hint) around the beggining OR end of the walk (so either near Salisbury or Winchester) so it's your choice where to start! More details about the Bonus on the cache's page.
