The Waite farm (pictured from the river) was a thriving dairy farm for many years then Congress decided in the 1985 Farm Bill that it was smarter to pay farmers to stop producing milk and pay them to liquidate their herds. After being paid by the goverment to quit selling milk it became a beef cattle farm and later leasing the pasture out. It now is owned by McKenzie River Trust a non profit organization operating on grants and donations. The land is in the process of being restored to as close as it was once originally. All buildings ,except one little tool shed, have been removed. The tide gate is to be removed and dikes taken out. There will be ditch's dug throughtout the fields. A lot of hard work over the years will be lost
When leaving cache site turn vehicle around first (believe me there is room) don't try and back out it is too dangerous. Oh I almost forgot BYOP
The cache contains, for the FTF, a gift certificate for an ice cream cone at BJ’s ice cream parlor.
Congratulations. to Kenny Art for the FTF
