Geocache Description:

Sunset City Gulch is a gulch that runs south from Fremont County Road 28 at mile market 12.  There is an old mining road that is not used any more and can provide a good place to ATV or walk the 1.9 miles, but sometimes the wash is much easier.  The ammo box cache is about 30' from an old mining claim sign and just beyond where the ATV trail stops.

Though never an actual established city (and consequently ghost town), Sunset City has never been officially recognized by the state or federal governments except as a site on a map. Along with East Sunset City down the road, they started out more as stage stops for travelers to eat and rest and tend to tired horses along the Copper Gulch Stage Line between Cañon City and Silver Cliff around 1879.  Please read the full description on the Senset City Cache.

This area of the county remains as open range and free-grazing cattle are abundant on the road, so use caution. During rainy days, be advised of flash flooding and remember to immediately climb uphill if you find yourself caught in one.

Please take out any trash that you see we don't want BLM to close this beautiful area, because we are not picking up after ourselves.
