Geocache Description:

This is part of a series of caches in the vicinity.

Look out for gold while you are cacheing as in the 1850's gold was found in the area.  Timber became more profitable and the prospectors stayed on to work at the sawmill.  It is presumed that the local area became 'Britannia Creek' from an ex-Ryal Navy midshipman, Charles Bowtell, who had retired from his ship, H.M.S. Britannia.  Charles set up a store selling spirits and named his shack 'Britannia'.  Guide House was bought for the Girl Guides in 1938 and became known as Britannia Park.  Guides have been camping here ever since and it is only recently that the sawmill opposite has closed.
To find the cache you don't need to enter private property or Britannia Park.
