I was one of 10 children born to Henry and Henrietta. I loved reading but didn’t attend a school until I was 11 years old as I had a governess previously. I left school when I was 16 so I could go to sea.
I travelled all around the world and in a few years had worked my way up to being an officer.
I was keen to keep travelling to many different parts of the globe.
I was an inspirational leader but was never able to realise my personal dream.
I spent years in difficult conditions being cold, wet and living off limited supplies.
I was a journalist, a husband, a father, I loved poetry and stood unsuccessfully for parliament.
My men and I were the first to successfully climb Mount ___________.
My nickname was “the Boss”.
I was knighted for my endeavours, but died heavily in debt.
When stranded in severe conditions, I set in place a daring and epic plan that eventually saw my men return home safely.
I was not immediately recognised for all my achievements until many years had passed.
On occasions I enjoyed a fine tipple, which you can still enjoy today.
The King and Queen attended my memorial service at St Paul's Cathedral in London after my death.
