Geocache Description:

Mason Island near Carna, Connemara  uninhabited since 1957 used to be home to 114 people.  There are still a number of derelict houses and a school house built in 1895.  There are also a few holiday homes some available for rent.

A beautiful island and nature reserve take care in nesting season as many nests lie on the ground.

Go to either Ard East, Ard West, Mas or Mweenish Piers and ask anyone with a boat to take you to Mason Island, approximately 1 mile from the mainland.  (agree a return price before you go)

When you arrive at Mason Island Pier walk up the road and start your wonderful walk over the Island. You will need about an hour or two to explore this beautiful place so give yourself plenty of time.

Please leave nothing behind you except your footprints, take all your litter home.
