Geocache Description:

The cache is hidden at the entry of the road leading to the official entrance of Villa della Palombara di Plinio.

Along the old roman costal road, Via Severiana you will find this archaeological complex. The site contain a garden, some baths with fairly well preserved mosaic, ruins of some other buildings and the foundation of a more recent christian church. The mosaic is sometimes covered by a protection carpet. You will find excellent signboards with illustrations, photos and plans in both English and Italian. In the center of the site, you also have picnic tables and a french water. If you Google Villa della Palombara di Plinio, you will find more information.

The archaeological site is fenced off with a 2 meter high fence, padlocks and warning signs. I have never seen the doors open and there is no signs of opening hours or who to contact. There are a number of opening in the fence, some more frequency used and some less. The opening indicated in one of the photos and in the additional way points is probably the one that provides the easiest access. There are a number of paths leading to the cache, some smaller and overgrown, others wide and suitable for strollers.

I'm not in any way trying to encourage anybody to illegally enter the site, even so, in my mind, this is a hidden gem definitely worth a visit. II wish all the other sites would be as well signposted with as much information available.

I hope to build a series of caches in the Urbano Pineta di Castel Fusano park. During the time I spent in the neighborhood, I often have used the park to get some exercise. I also pass some of the cashes going to the sea for a swim. The area is always open and accessible, but I have been told that there might be funny things happening in the evenings.

The cache is a black plastic container containing logbook and pens. The container is big enough for geocoins and smaller trackables. If you follow the Via Severiana northwards for 1.9 km, you will see more and more of the old cobblestone roads and find the Via Severiana cache.

If you are willing to translate this text into Italian, please drop me a note and I will update the cache.
