Geocache Description:

Guittard Station, founded a short distance east of this marker in 1857, was a stopping point for stagecoaches and Pony Express riders traveling west from St. Joseph, MO. A large, two-story house provided living quarters and a waiting room for stage passengers, and a large barn accommodated a blacksmith shop and stalls for some twenty-four horses. Famous people who passed through included Buffalo Bill Cody and writers Horace Greeley and Samuel Clemens, a.k.a. Mark Twain.
