Geocache Description:

My first cache close to where I live is a homage to the area, as well as to my inability to find nanocaches! This is a black magnetic nano, 7/16” or 1.1cm, with room for a log only. Tweazers may be required. Parking is available next to the location but stealth is a must as this is a heavily muggled area, particularly during the daytime.

The area in the vicinty of the cache is formerly known as Green Farm, Woolstrop. The farm itself was located close to the present day supermarket to the south. The area and its immediate surroundings were also part of the Woolstrop Estate, with the manor-house standing on the large moated site east of the Bristol road.

The current housing estate occupies the southern half of Green Farm apple and pear orchard. The remainder of the orchard is protected as a Local Nature Reserve and lies north-east of the cache (do go and take a look around, a cache may be placed there in the future!). In the autumn a good crop of apples, crab apples, pears, damsons and plums can be found. Local people are encouraged to pick the fruit for their own use. Some of the trees are also getting very old, making them an excellent habitat for wildlife. The site is very well used by birds, and also contains a good invertebrate population as well as bats and also provides an important addition to the wildlife corridor that runs along the canal.
