This magnificent church was formerly St Margaret’s church and was renamed as King's Lynn Minster in 2011. It was known as Lynn Priory for the first 450 years of its existence. In fact the church has had many guises. It started out as a small, simple Norman church in 1101. Additions throughout the years reached a pinnacle in the 15th century when the church was at its largest and boasted an octagonal central lantern and a spire on the south west tower. The spire was destroyed and the lantern had to be demolished after a huge storm in 1741 and by 1744 the structure of the building we see today took shape. The church was established by Herbert de Losinga Bishop of Norwich in 1095 as a Benedictine Priory. The priory was subordinate to the Priory of the Holy Trinity in Norwich. < >
