Geocache Description:

Quick P&G cache in a historical spot I have long thought ought to have a a cache.

DON'T GO ONTO THE BRIDGE! The cache is not there, and you will fall in the river and die. Please don't fall in the river and die for a silly little smiley face. I will have to give up caching forever as penance, and you don't want that on your conscience.

This rare Warren truss bridge was built in 1896, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was closed in the 1980’s and was the first bridge in Vermont to try the new strategy of leaving the old as is, and build a new bridge right next to it. Unfortunately no plans were made to preserve or maintain the original, so who knows how long it will remain as is.

See the link (just under the D/T rating) for a personal story of the bridge from neighbor Viola Morse, a lovely lady I had the honor of knowing, as I grew up a child of Wilmington.

Another personal note - this was the school bus turnaround for my bus route when I was a kid. Just a few years ago.
