Philipp's Bridge Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

day1976: At an event last night, this cache made an appearance. All in sundry signed the log and the cache was handed back to me to replace on my way home.

Except I forgot.

With an unwell little boy I totally forgot to replace this cache and upon unpacking the car from the camping trip I found it on the back seat.

As I have no idea when I will be back in the area again and with enough maintenance on my hands after the recent fires, I'm going to let this one go.

Geocache Description:

Philipp's Bridge

Please don't hold me accountable to the exact historical truth to the following information....

The city of Sydney has its "A. Phillip", the first governor general of NSW and founder of the settlement of Sydney following the journey of The First Fleet in 1788. Sydney celebrates its "A.Phillip" with many statues, plaques, road signs etc.

The little known fact is that Melbourne also has its own "A.Phillip", or using the correct spelling "Philipp", who like Sydney's "A.Phillip" laid the foundations of a great community. But very little is known about Melbourne's Philipp except that his name gets mis-pelt over and over again.

There are a few things around that do bear his mis-spelt name. Port Phillip Bay (which should have been Port Philipp Bay) is immediately obvious, but there is very little else.

In Victoria, you really aren't anybody until a bridge is named after you. Sir Henry Bolte, ex premier of the great state of Victoria has a nice one named after him. Even John Westgate, an early but extremely talented barber had a bridge named after him. Surely you would think Melbourne's Philipp would have a bridge named after him too, wouldn't you?

So it was with this task in mind that I set out on my mission to find a bridge named after Melbourne's Philipp. My first stop was the town of Port Melbourne, the supposed residence of this elusive character. I knew the naming of this bridge was probably going to be mis-spelt, but after I had searched the streets, poured over maps and delved into the archives, I couldn't turn up a Phillip's Bridge.

Of course I had immediately come across the magnificent court that we have named in his honor, a picturesque industrial estate if ever there was one, but after months of searching I had just about given up hope when suddenly I came upon it. Secretly tucked away in a place very few people ever visit, we have a quaint little bridge, named after Victoria's own Philipp , and as always mis-spelt as "Phillip".

For you to find it too, you will need to come to the published co-ordinates, in Phillip Court, Port Melbourne to gather the information on a plaque here, plug your answers into the calculations and I will lead you to the elusive Phillip's Bridge.

According to the Plaque at the posted co-ordinates....

The rated operational voltage is ABC volts.

The Short Circuit capacity is DEkA

The current weight is G kilograms

The telephone number is 03 9HIJ KLMN

The fax number is 03 9OPQ RSTV

The cache is located at the following co-ords....

South D(E+2) degrees (MN+A).(KLMN-PQ) minutes.

East BA(C+1) degrees (HIJ-G).T(V-C)H minutes.

In case you want to check your calculations, I have provided a checker.....
