Geocache Description:

Cache moved off State Land. The cache is located about 1/2 mile from the old bridge, follow the 2 track to the bridge if you want to see it. Located on the first Route 66, you can drive a medium clearance vehicle to within 100 feet.

You must enter at Winona the east end is closed

This single lane reinforced bridge was constructed in 1913 as part of the Old Trails Highway the predecessor to Route 66.

Padre Canyon Bridge the first bridge over the canyon remained in use through 1937 when Route 66 was realigned to go over the canyon at the location of west bound I-40 bridge. The bridge is still used today by locals and ranchers.
You can access the cache from Winona on the North side of the freeway by following the old road and you can travel back in time to the original Old Trails Highway and Route 66 alignment. A higher clearance vehicle is needed for a short piece 1/4 mile on the west side of the bridge. Be sure to check out the northeast corners for some local art work.
