WELCOME TO MOSSY HOLLOW. We hope your visit is an enjoyable one.

These trails wind through the beautiful communities and natural landscapes of the Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area, offering scenic routes for hiking and biking. Along the Rockdale River Trail, you’ll be searching for this cache container. The title refers to the original cache hide, which has evolved over time. Just like in life, the cache has faced challenges—whether damaged, missing, or needing to be replaced. For now, it’s a simple container, with hopes of rebuilding it in the future and teaching an important lesson along the way.

The original cache was created by kids, for kids, and was a small village built at the base of a mossy stump along the trail. Sadly, weather and time took their toll on it. After adopting the cache, we tried to fix what we could, but a rain storm wiped out the entire village. However, we found a piece of it—a mushroom table—further down the creek and decided to rebuild it. This moment taught us that even when things fall apart, there’s always hope to rebuild and grow.

The Arabia Alliance team then created a new cache: a hanging picnic basket that, when lowered, revealed a small gnome village. We added some original pieces that fit perfectly with the theme. But just like the first, the weather and time led to the need for another replacement. This experience reinforced the idea that change is inevitable, but it’s how we adapt and keep going that matters.

Next, a hanging birdhouse with a penguin family was created, which did well against the elements but was eventually damaged by a storm. Once again, we found ourselves facing the challenge of rebuilding, but this time, we knew it was just part of the process.

Now, we’ve scaled back to a simple container while we brainstorm new, more durable ideas. Our hope in rebuilding these caches is to teach our kids an important life lesson: things may break, get lost, or change, but with creativity, teamwork, and persistence, we can always rebuild and make something new.
