Geocache Description:

Another leg of the Bruce County Rail Trail, maintained by the Brocton Trails members.  This is a multi-use trail, ATVs must be licenced & plated. We x-c ski and hike here. In spring there are some mucky spots, but it's a really nice spot!  Please practice CITO! Parking at 2445 Concession 2 South Bruce

At some point this had been somebody's homestead.  As you start the trail you'll notice the stone foundation of what was likely a house.  Here you'll see an old silo and another stone foundation, perhaps the barn. LOOK closely at where cache is , there's a stone structure here as well as tree roots.  Geo hubby pointed out that those stony spots would be nice nesting grounds for snakes.  Please respect them and all wildlife.  Bring your camera, oh, and your own pencil to sign the log!  Please replace cache where you found it. Pioneers here in 1854 to this way-south corner of Culross, (South Bruce), township, Mary (Ferguson) and William D. Simpson officially purchased lot 33, Concession 2 in 1858. They were from Aberdeen, Soctland. Over the years they purchased more lots which were farmed by some of their 6 sons, (5 daughters). This lot was sold to a "Moir' in 1914, and later on to a 'King'. Grandson Doug confirmed that these stone ruins were indeed from Mary and William's days. .
