Mill Lane Pond Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Tomb Raider501: Time to say goodbye. Mindless vandals have burnt the cache site down. Sadly over time this area has become less of a beauty spot and more of a rubbish dump. Hopefully the council will cleanup the awful mess that the fire has left for the sake of the wildlife . Decking made from reclaimed car tyres. By some miracle I was able to rescue to two trackable items that were in the cache that was destroyed in the blaze and clean them up.
Many thanks to everyone that visited this cache and for the logs that you all posted.

Geocache Description:

You are looking for a screw top container that has room for swappables . Watch out for Dog walkers and being overlooked from the nearby golf course and houses. Please re-hide well and enjoy your visit.

In 2009 a local community group ,The Friends of Walney and project co-ordinator Alan Docker rasied more than £15'000 for the refurbishment of the Pond at Mill Lane. With the help of a grant from Cumbria County Council. This area was given a facelift that took more than two years to complete.

Mill Lane Pond is now a haven where all-sorts of wildlife have made their home. The large pond and reed beds are home to many species including Ducks ,Herons, Geese, willow Warblers and Moor hens.

On your visit you may also spot the large, brightly coloured Southern Hawker Dragon Fly ,boat men, water scorpions, caddis fly larvae and dragonfly nymphs.

The area was developed as part of a regeneration initiative to improve the local area for the benefit of the community.

Parking can be found on Mill Lane. If turning left into Mill Lane from the promenade park on the road side just after the shops. If approaching from Central Drive go passed Vickers Town Cricket Club and park just before reaching the shops. Look for a prominent trail leading to the Coastguard Station. There you'll see a smaller trail immediately to the left leading to Mill Lane pond.

Congratulations to Furness Fly Tyer and Brown Teddies on joint FTF.
