Geocache Description:

This is the seventh adventure in the Bunch of Floating Lunatics canoe event series.

OSA Lake

Well, French River didn't work out so here's our backup plan. We're going to Killarney!

For our annual spring trip, this year we're heading deep into the Killarney wilderness. We'll be spending the weekend paddling Killarney Provincial Park.  Come and join us as we take a break from the brutal portage that is "The Pig". We'll be stopping for some lunch and enjoying the view off to Baie Fine (pronounced Bay Finn).

This event will be at the posted co-ordinates.
Officially, the event runs from 11am to noon.

If you'd like to join us, please note:
  • Killarney is a Provincial Park, and as such you are required to have a permit from Ontario Parks to visit. If you do not have your park permit, you cannot attend this event.

  • You can visit us by canoe, suggested put-in is George Lake. If you are day tripping it's going to be a long one, as you will portage George to Freeland to Killarney to OSA to Muriel, then portage your boat 800 metres. You might want to consider camping.

  • You could also visit from Georgian Bay / Baie Fine if you have access to a bigger boat (bad, bad idea in a canoe).
We'll be at the start of the portage at the east end, that leads from "The Pool" to "Three Narrows / Muriel", otherwise known as "The Pig".
The BFL Crew is putting in on Thursday morning at George Lake, and paddling to Killarney and Three Narrows lakes.
We'll be approaching the event from the portage.
  • A word of caution: this is a backcountry wilderness area. The terrain rating reflects that.

  • A boat is recommended to visit the event, but not necessarily required ...
You could also hike in on the La Cloche Silhouette Trail. (12km each way across very challenging terrain)
  • Camping gear for an overnight stay is recommended.

  • Cell phones will not receive any signal here.

  • You are responsible for your safety - know your limits.
If you're interested in joining the BFL Crew for the multi-day outing, probably best to message me for the details.
