Based out of the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center (Ashland, WI.) the festival offers a weekend of birding and nature activities on Wisconsin's south shore of Lake Superior at the peak of spring migration. Since its beginning, the "bird and nature fest" has grown to annually provide more than 110 activities to over 250 birders and nature lovers of all ages and skill levels. As part of the 2014 festival, a slate of field trips focusing on the Penokee Range of Ashland, Bayfield and Iron counties, the area that would be affected at least in some way by the proposed iron ore mine, is being offered. The three caches of the Chequamegon Bay Birding & Nature Festival (CBBNF) series were placed in locations to keep with the theme of the "Penokee Day" activities/field trips. Hopefully these geocaches will provide another way for people to enjoy this unique and beautiful part of Wisconsin.
CBBNF #2 has been placed near the Marengo River along a portion of the North Country Trail on the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, Great Divide Ranger District.
