Lake Dinnyreesa Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

-Rusty-: Greetings from Geocaching.com
I have been looking at caches in the area that have been temporarily disabled for a while now and it looks like your cache has been under the weather for some time.

As stated in the cache listing guidelines available at http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx#maint
You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to hunt for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable time - normally a few weeks - in which to arrange a visit to your cache. In the event that a cache is not being properly maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an extended period of time, we may archive or transfer the listing.

While Geocaching.com would like to continue to hold the location for you, doing so blocks other cachers from placing caches in the area. We feel that this cache has been disabled for a period of time exceeding what is reasonable for the area, and thus I regretfully must archive it.

If you are able to get out and replace the cache, simply drop me a note and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. I will be more than happy to take a look at it to see if it is still is within the guidelines of the Geocaching.com website for cache placement and posting.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the future.

Thank you for your cooperation,

Rusty...

Geocache Description:

Shoe box size container with a blue lid.

As I was placing this cache in and unfamiliar area of lower Mich. I ran into an old guy who was metal detecting,"Coach"as he called himself. We swapped stories about what each of us was doing, and he told me an intetesting story about the area. Back in the late 1700's, when the area was still being contested by the French and English, the area was a lake. It had no name at the time, but was prized for the quality of the beaver pelts, and other fur bearing critters that lived around the shallow lake. It seems that the French military presence at the time was commanded by a woman, a Capt. Syndi Reesa, who traveled with her paramour, Denise Reynolds, who went by the moniker "Dinny".

The English were commanded by a Lt. Cook. The French and English were not in open conflict yet, and often meet under peaceful, albeit terse conditions. Sometime during one of the encounters, Lt. Cook made a play for the fair lady Dinny, and Capt. Reesa exploded. She challenged Lt. Cook to a duel, and lost. Dinny was so distraught that she committed suicide by drowning herself in the lake. The English quickly withdrew before the two forces came to blows. The French named the lake after their fallen commander and her lover. Thus the name Lake Dinnyreesa. Or maybe not.------The area is swampy in parts, but the lake is now gone.
