There used to be a cache here called Chéz Troglodyte #1 by Pete the Pirate but it got archived in June 2013 which I always thought was a shame. So this was a perfect opportunity to put the earth house back on the geocaching map.
There is a perfect parking spot on the farm track with a gate beside it with a track to the earth house. Please park conserately - this is a working farm and also please stay to the track. It is quite clear where the track is.

Carlungie Earthhous dates to the late Iron Age, from the 1st to 2nd centuries AD. It is an example of a souterrain, probably used to store food.
The earthhouse was discovered in the 1940s. It was excavated in 1950-1951 by F.T. Wainwright, who first suggested that the function of the souterrain was as an underground cow byre, although grain storage and ritual use have also been suggested. Incorporated into the structure are recycled stones with neolithic/Bronze Age cup and ring mark.
There is more information on the board at the site.
