Liberation Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Antheia: Hi grussgott
This cache has been disabled for some time and as the owner has not repaired/replaced it, I am archiving it.

The Geocache Maintenance guideline explains a CO's responsibility towards checking and maintaining the cache when problems are reported. Caches that have been archived for lack of maintenance will not be unarchived. This is explained in the Help Center.

If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Geocache Description:

A nice and easy cache on a lovely footpath between Beauport and St. Brelade's  Bay to celebrate Liberation Day.

I have called this cache Liberation as it is Liberation Day tomorrow (9th May) and we are free to walk on these beautiful coastal footpaths whenever and wherever we wish (unlike in the days of the occupation of our island by the German forces). The Channel Islands were occupied  during World War II by the German forces  and came to the brink of starvation before English troops arrived on May 9th 1945 to liberate us from the enemy. This day is an official Bank Holiday in Jersey  (and in most cases strictly observed) and a re-enactment of this arrival of the Liberating Force takes place every year in Liberation Square , bringing back many memories for those who spent those years under German rule. This coastal path is child friendly, although you will need to keep a hand on very young children in the odd spot or two. The cache is small but has some some children's swaps in it and there is room for a trackable or two. The views over St. Brelade's Bay are superb  and whichever end you chose to start from there are other caches to be looked for.

Enjoy the walk and cache hunting!  Just think that this would not have been possible if there had not been a Liberation Day in 1945!
