Welcome to my first geocache! I am a pupil at Alford Academy and I thought it would be a good idea to hide a cache to mark the impending closure of our current academy and the construction of the new Alford Community Campus.
Alford Academy currently teaches around 585 pupils. Some of our ex-pupils have gone on to become very successful in their chosen careers. These include Laura Murray - a professional golfer who has won 27 caps for Scotland, the Scottish Championship and the 2012 Order of Merit. Another successful ex-pupil is Stewart Milne, house-building boss and Chairman of Aberdeen FC. Probably our most famous ex-pupil is Emeli Sandé. The Brit Award winner recorded the best-selling album of 2012 and performed at both the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2012 London Olympics. She also performed an exclusive gig for the pupils and staff of Alford Academy and Alford Primary.
Our school will be replaced in August 2015 by the new Alford Community Campus. It will encompass Alford Primary School and Alford Academy as well as being a hub for the local area. The new campus will incorporate a new swimming pool, a theatre, a dance studio, a large sports hall and a gymnasium. It will also have a community café, a large library and excellent learning spaces for all.
I have been learning how to geocache as part of my English course and I hope that the description I have written for you leads you to the treasure!
The cache is a small clip-lock tupperware box inside a camouflage bag and it is hidden in the top corner of the rugby pitches between the existing academy and the building site for the new community campus. There is a path round the pitches and the cache site is by a large beech tree, which stands out from the other trees growing around it. Next to the tree is a collection of 3 large boulders with 1 small boulder nestled in the gap between 2 of the large ones. The cache contains some small swappables and a 'Mendel The Fact-Finding Guinea Pig' travel bug. Please send Mendel safely on his travels and share one interesting fact when you log that you have picked up/dropped off Mendel. We will track his progress online at www.geocaching.com.
Thanks!!
