Geocache Description:

“Park” is bit of an understatement when it comes to describing this 4.5 hectare parcel of bushland hidden among the already leafy suburb of Mangerton. Even living nearby all my life, I’d only ventured into the heart when seeking new places for a cache.

A remnant of the original coastal plan vegetation, this suburban bush includes turpentine woodland in the higher parts and subtropical rainforest in the wetter down-slope, providing an important habitat for a wide variety of native birds, mammals and reptiles. Look up in the trees and you may occasionally see bird and possum boxes placed by bushcare volunteers.

The park also has a great variety of flora with studies identifying 54 species of trees and shrubs, 23 species of climbers and 39 species of ground cover, herbs and ferns. This diversity supports over 70 species of birds that use the park either as residents or as a migratory stop over.

Couple of hints/warnings:
• There are four secluded access points to the park, roughly to the north, south, east and west marked by a “Friends of Mangerton Park Bushcare” sign nearby
• Do not name the street you entered/exited from, though indicating if you used the north, south, east or west access is ok
• Each entrance is approximately the same distance and terrain rating from GZ (though the north entrance may warrant an extra half star for the first few metres)
• Defined paths (some a little overgrown or barely more than geotrails) criss-cross the whole area but there are a lot of forks in the road where the gps arrow may not always be the direction you need to take
• Depending on the time of year, take precautions against muddy paths, mozzies, cicadas and leeches as well as the usual bush bugs
• Replace camo appropriately
• Enjoy exploring!
