Cache placed by the National Trust. Great End is without doubt one of the most stunning view points in the Lake District. If you stand with Great Gable and Green Gable to your left you get a full panorama. Look round down into the Borrowdale valley and its mountains, out towards Skiddaw and Blencathra, swinging right you'll see the Helvellyn range, the Langdale Pikes, Esk Pike and finally the Scafell massif behind you.
You can start from lots of places. If you walk up out of the Borrowdale valley from Seathwaite, walking under Great End itself, circling round into Calf Cove and then up to Great End summit itself. The cache is a little distance back from the edge (we don’t want you falling over). If it’s cloudy or windy please take extra care to avoid the crags on the north side of the summit. This is a more serious mountain than the rest of the Borrowdale Skyline Challenge caches so do be prepared for a bigger walk.In winter Great End gives fantastic ice climbs. In a winter with a lot of snow this cache might become unavailable until the snow melts!
