Alberta Battlecache 2014 Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

rustywa: Archiving the cache as I'm not going to replace it and I don't want others to claim it with only the lid there. The lid has been removed as well.

Thanks for all who visited, 2.5 years is a good run.

Geocache Description:

Alberta Battlecache

Wanna play a game?

The Alberta Battlecache is a game of "battleship" that is played with geocaches. This competition will be held over the summer months between June 1st and August 31, 2014. At the end of that period we will host an event to announce winners of the game and just have a good time together.

Join the fun!

To participate in the Alberta Battlecache, just sign up through the www.albertabattlecache.ca website. Registration is free and easy and once you're registered you can read all about the game rules and other fun stuff but most importantly, take a shot at the Game Board. We even made it easy to participate by providing tools that help you to get the caches you need!

Game rules

Just like the original board game Battleship the objective of the game is to sink as many ships of your opponent as you can. To take a shot, you have to find a geocache.

To determine the grid coordinate of a "shot" on the Game Board, use the GC code of the found cache (e.g., GC25EWD). Disregard the leading 'GC' characters and use the remaining characters to form a valid grid coordinate. In the example, valid points would be E2, E5, W2, and W5 ('D' is not on the y-axis of the Game Board).

Any physical or event cache counts towards this competition, caches do not have to be found in Calgary or even Alberta. So it can be perfectly combined with the caches you find during your summer holiday.

Practice run

Register before June 1st and take a few "practice" shots to see how it feels. At 12:00 AM on June 1st we will clear the database to start the competition, and the shots will be for real.

Wrap up event

On Saturday September 6, 2014 we will host a wrap up event where the winners of the prizes are announced. The details of that event (location, time), will be published closer to the actual event date.

Personal banner

Spread the word on the game and show others that you're participating by placing a banner on your profile. The instructions for that are displayed on the www.albertabattlecache.ca website once you have registered.
