In the mid 1970s the Federal Highway Administration approved an Interstate Highway to run between I-10 in south Louisiana and I-20 in north Louisiana. These 200 miles of Interstate generally goes in a southeast to northwest directions between Lafayette and Shreveport.
As the I-49 was being built in the 1980s and completed in the 1990s, it cut across many parish roads. One such road was LA 485. Originally LA 485 went east west, however I-49 came through and the road had to be rerouted. Today you can still see the original LA 485 in Natchitoches Parish from a view from space.
