Cache placed by National Trust. Dale Head Tarn is a beautiful quiet place and a fantastic setting for your lunch if you’re doing a series of caches. It is often sheltered and an ideal site for responsible no-trace wild camping. The summit gives views down into the Newlands valley with its rich mining history, while the sheltered dip gives you a wonderful feeling of seclusion among the high peaks.
There are many ways to get to this point, either taking in the whole Cat Bells ridgeline, or why not try going in from the Newlands Valley parking at Little Town with a walk up a quiet valley passing the waterfalls and if you’re lucky listening to the peregrines calling.
