Zinkwazi
Situated 80 kilometers from Durban on the stunning Dolphin Coast, Zinkwazi is one of the oldest holiday resort areas on the Kwa-Zulu Natal north coast, South Africa. Zinkwazi is a Zulu name meaning “Place of the Fish Eagle” and this sub tropical paradise, situated at the mouth of the Zinkwazi River, is home to a wide variety of beautiful birdlife, including many majestic fish eagles.
Zinkwazi’s seven kilometer long lagoon, which is only reached by the sea for short periods during the rainy season, has a multitude of small fish and crabs. These serve as an attraction to the many birds that nest in the lush indigenous forests along the edge of the lagoon. More than 250 species of birds have been registered in the Zinkwazi area, including many kingfisher varieties, the purple-crested loerie and the Natal robin, which has the gift of being able to perfectly imitate the call of the African Fish Eagle.
There are many activities in Zinkwazi for visitors to enjoy. The ferry on the lagoon is used for upriver cruises which include bird-watching. There are a number of golf courses for the golf enthusiasts to choose from. Stunning nature trails have pathways to walk along which include many bird-watching areas. The seven kilometer lagoon can be explored by canoe or pedal boat. The waves of the ocean are perfect for surfing, boogie boarding and other water activities, with the long stretches of white sandy beaches being a pleasure to walk along, have a game of volley ball or just take it easy under an umbrella with a good book.
Zululand’s impressive game reserves, tribal culture and historical sites are within easy access of Zinkwazi, and the metropolitan city of Durban is less than an hour away for those who want to go shopping or explore the many places of interest in this bustling South African city.
Visitors to Zinkwazi can experience the pleasure of being close to nature, enjoying a walk through the sub-tropical forest, surrounded by bird song, or along the palm-fringed beach of the lagoon with the roar of the Indian Ocean surf in the background – a little piece of paradise.

The Cache
There are many pathways between the houses to reach the beach. The two closest pathways are listed in the given waypoints, as well as a suggested parking area. DO NOT try to access the cache via any of the private properties fronting the beach as you will in all likelihood trip intruder beams!
The cache (a preform container) is placed in the coastal forest a short distance off the main beach and should be an easy find.
