Geocache Description:

This is the first of a series of caches dedicated to our local volunteer fire departments. There is a container to search for here or just 'Log in' on the camo. Use stealth as necessary. This may be a busy place on Sunday mornings or during a fire event.

This cache is located at the Johnson Siding Volunteer Fire Department Station 1. This fire department has been in existence since 1965, but was originally much smaller with fewer fire fighting vehicles. Funding was made available for a new building and bay and for more firefighting vehicles, and the building you see today was completed and opened in 2006. Stop by and take a look at it, including the statue of the firefighter in the front of the building. Note the bell in the tower. Word went out when the new building was going up to try and locate the original fire bell. It was found and acquired and now hangs in the tower of the new building. This is an unmanned station, but can be busy during fire season and sometimes on Sunday mornings as overflow parking for the nearby church. Those of us who live outside of city limits depend on the volunteers here and at the other volunteer stations for fire protection of our homes and property. Thanks to all the men and women who volunteer their time and talents! Permission for this cache placement was obtained from the Johnson Siding VFD.
