Miles Smiles is the second LP recorded by Miles with his famous “second quintet” featuring Wayne Shorter on sax, Herbie Hancock on piano, Ron Carter on bass and Tony Williams on drums. It also turns out to be the first Miles LP that I bought - I even remember purchasing it at Sherman’s on Sparks Street in 1968. What fascinated me most on this album was the way that Tony Williams turned his drum kit into a melodic instrument - I had never heard drums played like that before - it was most remarkable on a track called Footprints.
The cache is a small bison tube hanging from the fence post in the cedar hedge, about eye level, at the edge of Hiawatha Park. It should be winter friendly.

Miles Smiles est le deuxième album studio enregistré par Miles en compagnie de son “deuxième grand quintet”: Wayne Shorter au ténor, Herbie Hancock au piano, Ron Carter à la basse et Tony Williams à la batterie. Il s’agit aussi du premier microsillon de Miles que je me suis acheté - au fait je me souviens même de me l’être procuré chez Sherman’s sur la rue Sparks en 1968. Ce qui m’a fasciné sur cet album c’est la façon que Tony Williams a transformé sa batterie en un instrument mélodique - c’était la première fois que j’entendais quelqu’un faire chanter sa batterie de cette façon, et c’est particulièrement évident sur la piste intitulée Footprints.
La cache est une petite "bison" accrochée à la clôture derrière la haie de cèdres à la hauteur des yeux, à l’entrée du Parc Hiawatha. Elle devrait être accessible en hiver.
