Our family placed this cache on Mother's day 2014. This being our first cache we were very excited to find just the right spot near one of our favorite trails. We named the cache Heron's perch because we are the Heron family and there are numerous great blue herons found along this stretch of the river.
We found the perfect spot for the cache between 2 trails that run next to the Deschutes river just west of the town of Bend OR. The trailhead starts at Meadow Camp and goes down river. About an 1/8 of a mile down the trail, the trail splits and we found a spot between the upper and lower trails in a lava rock crevice. My kids spent much of the time balancing on a large ponderosa long the created a bridge over the lower trail. The cache is a plastic container with a screw-on lid that has been painted green and brown to match the surrounding rock and follage, and so it is not mistaken for garbage.
