Geocache Description:

[ENG] The village was named by Tsar Peter I, who used to come here in summer to rest and enjoy the beauty of local beaches (“ljubovatsa” – Russian for enjoy). It is also told that Peter I was named the village during the Great Northern War by the picturesque view from Lüübnitsa hilltop.

The village was first mentioned in 1582. It is possible that due to its port the village existed already earlier. Lüübnitsa village was mentioned in 1749 as new settlement. In addition to cultivation of land the villagers were engaged in fishing and fish processing. Main fish processed was smelt, which was dried in large drying ovens and sold in Tartu and Pskov. Fishing was regulated by lease contracts concluded between the Monastery of Pechory and peasants. Fishmongers purchased and then resold fish. It was obligatory to catch fish for the Monastery of Pechory.
In the 19th century Lüübnitsa constituted a private village community. Community consisted of 15 villages; some of them were Russian villages.
The villagers are still engaged in fishing and growing vegetables. In spring you may spot hanged strings with drying fish attached to houses. Locals grow lots of onion and in autumn you can see fascinating huge piles of golden onions in gardens or in yards. A traditional fish and onion fair takes place here in August.
An observation tower has been erected near the village on the shore of Lake Lämmijärv. A beautiful view unfolds from the 12.5 metres high observation tower. From here you may admire Lake Lämmijärv and two Russian islands on the lake – Kolpino and Mtesh – and also nearby villages – Beresje, Lüübnitsa and Audjasaare and a mire reserve.

Cache is hidden to an object, that was renovated in 2013. No need for climbing! Cache is possible to get safely.

BRING YOUR OWN PENCIL!

2010.a. oli laadakülaliste arv ligi 5000. Külas on renoveeritud külakeskus, küla servas järve kaldal aga 12,5 meetri kõrgune vaatetorn.

Aare asub ühel ehitisel mis renoveeriti 2013 aastal. Turnida pole vaja ja ei tohigi teha. Aare on võimalik ohutult kätte saada.
