Remnants of the old railway bridge Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

iPajero: We have had the privilege of hiking the Amatola trail many times. Unfortunately a section of the trail where a number of the caches are placed has been closed so we reluctantly have to archive them.

Geocache Description:

This cache is hidden on the first day of the Amatola Trail near King William’s Town. The trailhead starts at the Maiden Dam, below the fence. Be sure to follow the yellow footprints and be on the lookout for double footprints, which indicate a change in direction.

OTHER CACHES ON ROUTE
This is the 2nd of eleven caches hidden on the first part of the six-day Amatola Hike, the one being a bonus cache so make sure to pick up the clue at each of the following caches along this trail to find the Amathole Hike Bonus Cache. Caches with clues are 1) Measuring H2o flow, 2) Trestle Bridge, 3) The Chains, 4) Cycad Forest, 5) Hi-Jinx 6) Amathole View.

INFORMATION
The trail to pick up all eleven of these caches will be a good day’s hike and will cover about 16 kms. So, put on your hiking boots, daypack, sunscreen and hat. Drinking water can be found at a good few places along the trail. To get maximum enjoyment out of this trail, you should be fit and start as early as possible.

THE CACHE SITE
At this spot you find the stone abutment for the old railway bridge. The cache is hidden amongst these rocks, but it is essential to remove only one rock in order to get to the cache. There is a spoiler picture to help, but make sure you have referenced this before-hand as cell reception is scant along the lower part of the trail.
