There are 52 geocaches hidden within 16 state parks and historic sites in this parks region, and geocachers finding 35 or more will be eligible to enter their names in a drawing for valuable prizes. The first 75 people to find 35 or more caches will receive a special geocache challenge coin. If you are interested in taking up the challenge, you can pick up a geocache passport at any of the participating parks and sites or download it at www.nysparks.com

This cache contains a unique stamp which must stay with the cache.  Use this stamp to stamp your passport.  This stamp is NOT a trade item. Some of the items in the cache are park souvenirs and do not need to be replaced with a trade item.

Take a stroll from the park office to catch a sight of our state bird on your way to find this cache. Bluebirds are cavity nesters meaning they generally nest in dead holes of dead trees. However they often have to compete with much more aggressive birds, such as starlings, swallows, house wrens, and house sparrows for nesting sites. This makes habitat protection and conservation practices, like building bluebird boxes very important.  Check out our newly updated Bluebird Trail!  The trail starts beside the pool complex at the three sided kiosk, or at the NYPA Visitors Center, at the three sided kiosk, and follows trail markers past numerous nesting boxes and perch locations where you are highly likely to encounter the New York State bird!  Once you have found all 6 caches at Mine Kill State Park, stop by the park office for your 25% concession stand discount!  The pool and concession stand are open from 10am - 6pm, from June 28th - September 1st.

Mine Kill State Park is a very scenic and peaceful park located in the Schoharie Valley on the Lower Blenheim-Gilboa Reservoir.  Cool off at the park’s impressive pool complex.  Join in the fun at the park’s three playgrounds, volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, and baseball and soccer fields.  Have a picnic and explore miles of hiking trails.  The reservoir is stocked yearly with trout and walleye.  Plan on participating in one of the park fishing tournaments or one of the many educational programs.  Or, stop at the neighboring New York Power Authority’s Visitor’s Center and learn all about the production of electricity.

Mine Kill State Park is open during the summer months from 7:30am to 8pm and 7:30am to 4pm the rest of the year.  There is a $3 entry fee into the park during the summer months.  You can reach the park office at 518-827-6111 for more information
