Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a cache series placed to honour my home town and its centennial in 2014. The series highlights some of Delia's milestones or memorable moments and locations.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a three-stage (two plus the final) cache. Total walking time from GZ to the final location and back to GZ should be about 20 mins; however the time to figure out the coordinates of each stage is up to you.

The Village of Delia was issued its charter on July 20, 1914. It was named after the wife (her first name) of the area's first postmaster A. L. Davis.

Prior to that, it was called Highland because it was the highest point on the C.N.R. railway between Calgary and Saskatoon. If you travel 8 km south from Delia to the Hand Hills, you can see the Rockies on a clear day (plus find a few more caches ;-) ).

The coordinates listed for this cache will lead you to the site of Delia’s local museum which opened in 1989. In addition to the village celebrating 100 years in 2014, the museum was also turning 25 years old.

The museum itself is housed in what was the first Delia School. This two room wood frame schoolhouse was opened in 1916. It also served as a Sunday School in the 1920's. In the late 1950's, the building became the library for the school and community. By the time I was in school, it was being used as storage for the existing school. In 1985, it was moved to its current location and fully restored by the Delia Historical Society. The current school (the one I proudly graduated from in 19??) still sits at the original school location and is a block north of your current position.

The museum site also has a restored grist windmill that is fully operational.

As a part of the Centennial festivities, historical interpretive marker signs that highlight specific locations around town were installed if you're interested in learning more about the history of Delia. You're welcome to check them out. A map and legend showing all of their locations is available in front of the village office, kitty corner to the museum.

In order to find the 2nd stage of this cache, you must go to the posted coordinates and find the following information to complete these coordinates N 51° 37.86A W 112° 22.6BC:

  • A = distance original was from town
  • BC = length or width of structure + 6

And once you have arrived at the 2nd stage, please collect the necessary answers below to find the final stage at N 51° 38.0DE W 112° 22.70F:

  • DE = last 2 digits of number in the title
  • F = first number listed in the content

Good luck! If you are able to, you can check your answers for each stage here

Only the final stage contains a log book.

All stages are within the town limits and are within walking distance. As stated above, total walking time is ~20 mins. You can also drive to each location; parking shouldn't be a hassle (hey, this is Delia after all ;-) ).

Please do not post any spoiler images that give away the answers to the questions or the actual cache.

Please remember to be respectful of all locations. Please bring your own pen(cil)/writing instrument to sign the log and be very aware of how and where cache is "attached" so that it can be put back in exactly the same way and in the same place for the next person(s) to enjoy. Thanks.
