A cet emplacement fut d'abord construit un premier château fort. La date n'est pas connue avec certitude : soit en 1072 sous l'initiative d'Humber Ier (Compte de Maurienne et de Savoie), soit en 1170 par l'archevêque de Lyon. Au cours de la révolution française, le château est démantelé et constitue alors une réserve de matériaux.
Ensuite, un second château a été construit au même endroit au XIXe siècle.
Le 1er septembre 1944, les Allemands parviennent à prendre le nord de la ville et notamment le château de Meximieux.
Le 14 janvier 1992, le château est largement détruit par un incendie. Il est ensuite transformé en discothèque appelé « Le Château ». En juillet 2011, l'édifice est de nouveau touché par un incendie. La boîte de nuit cesse son activité en juin 2013, la municipalité achète alors le château et son domaine.
A NOTER : N'oubliez pas également d'admirer la jolie vue sur la plaine de l'Ain, l'Isle de Crémieu (le "petit" plateau) et le Bugey (le relief un peu plus important) ! De plus, changement de l'emplacement de la cache en mars 2018, afin de respecter le panneau propriété privée.
Here was built a first castle. The date is not known with certainty : in 1072 under the initiative of Humbert I (Count of Savoie and Maurienne), or in 1170 by the Archbishop of Lyon.
During the French Revolution, the castle was dismantled and here was formed a storehouse of materials.
Then, a second castle was built at the same place in the nineteenth century.
On 1 September 1944, the Germans manage to take the north of the town including the castle of Meximieux.
On 14 January 1992, the castle was largely destroyed by a fire. Then, it is then transformed into a disco called "Le Château". In July 2011, the building was damaged by fire again. The nightclub ceases its activity in June 2013, and the municipality bought the castle and estate.
NOTE : Don't forget also to admire the pretty view with the plain of the Ain, the "Isle of Crémieu" (the "small" plateau) and the "Bugey" (the relief more important) ! And changement of the place of the cache in March 2018, to respect the private property sign.
