Geocache Description:

This one shouldn't be all that hard. Please rehide well. Placed on Redbank Valley Trails with permission. This trail was honored by Pennsylvania as "2014 Trail of the Year" and is open dawn to dusk. You can find parking in New Bethlehem or on Kohlmyer Road at the end of the walking/biking bridge over Redbank Creek. There are restrooms, restaurants, gas stations in New Bethlehem.

You are looking for a large black mayonaise jar under a pine.

There are coke ovens about 200-300' up the trail as you head west towards the Allegheny River from this cache. These ovens sprung up in conjunction with the celebrated Long Run Coal Mines (Long Run Creek empties into Redbank Creek in this area). And actually, you can see old beehive coke ovens and freestanding kilns at several other places along this trail - or the remains of them. There was a lot of brick making, iron refining, and coke made from coal in ovens all along this trail from the village of Redbank on the Allegheny River clear up to at least Hawthorn (just north of New Bethlehem) where a now famous pottery plant was located. This area was rich in iron ore, coal, limestone, lumber, etc. once upon a time and this train track, which was completed in 1873, made it possible for the companies to get their products to market./>

Congratulations to Team (W)right for FTF and Happy Birthday to "S".
