It's not hard to see why this trail was selected to be honored for the first ever Pennsylvania Trail of the Year award, which it received in 2014. It is rich in history all along it's entire 41 mile length from Redbank on the Allegheny River to Brookville. Watch for geocaches all along the trail that point out it's history in that particular area of everything from railroad stations to coke ovens to brick plants to a famous pottery plant, etc. Besides all the historical spots along the trail it has 3 tunnels, one of which was carved right though the rock at Longpoint. The main trail follows the Redbank Creek the entire way and it is very picturesque no matter the time of year. The trail is being improved rapidly with grading and limestone although currently you will still find a few miles near the beginning and the end that haven't been improved yet. However, you should be able to walk or ride a bike over all of it without much problem. And eventually, there is a 9 mile spur from Lawsonham to Sligo that will also be improved. Happy Trails.
Congratulations to Scooter711 for FTF.
