This is an excerpt from the "Road Map of Canby Oregon", published by the Canby Area Chamber of Commerce:
Situated at the south entrance of Canby along Highway 99E, the Memorial is an extraordinary place of healing, honoring everyone who served our nation during the Vietnam War Era. Aloft on its pedestal is the most recognized helicopter type in the world - the Bell UH-1 better known as the "Huey". Thousands of lives were saved because of the dependability of the Huey and bravery of her crews. The statue, "A Hero's Prayer", sculpted by renowned artist Wayne E. Hyde, stands below depicting a soldier carrying his wounded buddy and waiting with a young Vietnamese girl for rescue. The setting suggests Vietnam and its rural agricultural rice paddies. You'll also see the Buddhist bell with the inscription in Vietnamese: "Believe in Peace."
