Benchmark B - Stubbing Lane Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dalesman: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not responded to my note I am archiving it.

Guidelines:**"You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing."**

If you wish to contact me about this cache please use my Email address below my signature and quote the GC number of the cache. Please note this system is not infallible and I may miss any such mail.

Many thanks,
DalesmanX - (Email address)

Geocache Description:

This is my first ever geocache series.  I remember when we all used to navigate using a map and compass. Ah, those were the days!

All my benchmark caches will be within 10 paces or so of the benchmark itself.

You will need dry hands and a good grip to unscrew the small round containers.

To make their maps surveyors used benchmarks to ascertain the height above sea level. This pariticular one is 115.260m above the UK Fundamental Benchmark in Newlyn, Cornwall.

As benchmarks are generally on big obvious objects you have to hunt around to find a hidey hole for a small little cache.

Collect the numbers from within the lids of these caches to find the bonus cache. At least temporarily the number for this cache equals the number of times you can find the word 'Thorpe' on the wall OPPOSITE the cache.

Taken from Wikipedia... Benchmarking (also known as benchmark hunting) is a hobby activity in which participants find benchmarks (also known as survey markers or geodetic control points). Technically, the term "bench mark" is only used to refer to survey markers that designate a certain elevation, but hobbyists often use the term benchmarks to include triangulation stations or reference marks. They typically then log their finds online. Like geocaching, the activity has become popular since about 1995.
