There are 52 geocaches hidden within 16 state parks and historic sites in this parks region, and geocachers finding 35 or more will be eligible to enter their names in a drawing for valuable prizes. The first 75 people to find 35 or more caches will receive a special geocache challenge coin. If you are interested in taking up the challenge, you can pick up a geocache passport at any of the participating parks and sites or download it at www.nysparks.com

This cache contains a unique stamp which must stay with the cache.  Use this stamp to stamp your passport.  This stamp is NOT a trade item. Some of the items in the cache are park souvenirs and do not need to be replaced with a trade item.

Chipmunks are solitary creatures and normally ignore one another except during the spring, when mating takes place. Their shrill, repeated, birdlike chirp is usually made upon sensing a threat but is also thought to be used as a mating call by females. They feed on insects, nuts, berries, seeds, fruit, and grain which they stuff into their generous cheek pouches and carry to their burrow or nest to store. Chipmunks hibernate, but instead of storing fat, they periodically dip into their cache of nuts and seeds throughout the winter. Chipmunks generally gather food on the ground in areas with underbrush, rocks, and logs, where they can hide from predators like hawks, foxes, coyotes, weasels, and snakes. So keep your eyes peeled for this tiny cache hidden in a chipmunk hiding spot. Park at the Max V. Shaul pavilion parking area off Route 30 in Fultonham, NY.

Max V. Shaul State Park is a small, quiet camping area with 30 wooded tent and trailer sites. The park has shady picnic grounds, as well as playing fields and a playground. There is a nature and hiking trail, fishing is allowed in Panther Creek and winter visitors can cross-country ski. Also, a car top boat/fishing access trail to the Schoharie Creek was established in 2011.  Call (518) 827-4711 for more information.
