PUD Fields 'Pop Gunn' Field Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

LizzyRN: I went by PUD today. I'm a little sad to let this one go, but I am A LOT sad to see that all the trees were taken down. They are currently stacked up in the field at GZ. They made a nice windbreak, running east and west across the north end of the field. I'm sure they were also home to lots of birds. Farewell trees! I hope another building doesn't take your place.

This cache was part of the Mount Vernon Geocoin Challenge. Thanks to all who've found it over the years.

Geocache Description:

Park Cache This was part of the MV Parks 2014 Geocoin Challenge. Watch for the 2015 event at www.mountvernonwa.gov/geocaching.

PUD Field is a 6 acre park located behind the Skagit PUD facilities. It includes a regulation baseball field, and several smaller soccer fields. This park was originally owned by PUD and was called Pop Gunn Field.

Royal E. 'Pop' Gunn was a athletic coach in the 20's, and later became a reporter for the Mount Vernon Argus and in the 60'sd the Skagit Valley Herald. Other than his early ties as a coach, not much is known about the origin of the naming of this park, or his involvement in the local athletic circles.

Parking is in the main PUD parking lot. This is a muggle heavy area, but a little bit of acting and stealth should be sufficient to locate the cache.
