Geocache Description:

This is a series of caches based on chapter titles from J.R.R Tolkiens book, The Hobbit. The full book title is “THE HOBBIT, OR, THERE AND BACK AGAIN”, and you will indeed have to go there and back again as it is a linear route. In two of the caches you will find North and West digits, which will give you the coordinates for the bonus cache.

Bilbo is persuaded by Gandalf to go with the dwarves and become their burglar. On a camp one night the dwarves notice a light flickering in the forest, and they send their burglar out to investigate. Bilbo finds three giant trolls sitting and roasting meat over the fire. To prove himself a burglar he tries to steal the trolls wallet and they catch him. They argue about what they should do with Bilbo. Of course, just then, two of the dwarves go to the fire to see what's going on. The trolls catch the two dwarves – and every dwarf who comes after them in sacks. The trolls are arguing whether they should roast them slowly, or mince them fine and boil them. They argue for so long, the sun comes up and turns the trolls into stone.

There is no need to bushwack to any of the caches and please tread carefully to avoid the woodland flowers at various times of year. A big thank you to Steph Hefferan, Ranger in Charge of the Whitegate Way, for allowing the placement of these caches. Have fun and may your quest be as fruitful as Bilbo Baggins’.
