The Equestrian Club of Riyadh is home to the King Abdul Aziz Race Course. Horse Racing in Riyadh at the time of His majesty King Abdul Aziz Bin Abdul Rahman Al Saud was conducted at the north β east area of Riyadh city. Horses used to start racing from the place now located at the end of Salah Alden Al Ayoubi Road with a finish line in front of a high hill where his late Majesty used to sit and watch the race. It is the place where the sport Club is presently located in Malaz quarter attached to the original Equestrian Club. At the time of the late King Saud Bin Abdul Aziz (God rest his Soul), a bench was set up on the hill which became a meeting seat for the competitor owners to watch the races. Where it was decided to move the ministers from M to Riyadh, the northern part of this location was selected as a high standard living quarter and called (Malaz) named after the horses forward movement. Thereafter, a piece of land was reserved for a race track and stables that were located east of the site. In about the year of 1383 H Prince Abdulla Bin Abdul Aziz feeling deterioration of the horse racing sport, lack of organization and indifferent attitude, called for gathering the concerned people in order to correct the situation. In 1965 this effort was completed resulting to official establishment of the Equestrian club. The race track was then completely fenced and the first official horse race was conducted on the site. The horse races proceeded on this track and went on developing and coping with international races under the prudent Presidency of H.R.H., Prince Abdulla Bin Abdul Aziz but this racecourse could not meet the extended activities and additional support facilities along with the fact that it was located amongst a housing quarter, which caused difficulty in moving the horses from the stables to the track. Therefore, an idea of having a vast international racecourse was developed and The Custodian of Two Holy Mosques, King Abdulla Bin Abdul Aziz gave his directions to prepare preliminary studies for constructing a wider racecourse that could better fulfill the growing racing objectives. Hence it was decided that the new site for such a project should be at Al Janadriya Township and the new complex was given a memorial name after the late King Abdul Aziz, the founder of the Kingdom. Remember to bring your own writing instrument. βοΈ
