This is Mrs Dan's 50th birthday cache. We celebrated her birthday in Spain in the Alpujarran mountains and the Costa De La Luz, but as caches are fairly thin on the ground over there we brought back various Spanish items for this cache. The only cache we looked for over there we couldn't find anyway. If you have any Spanish related swaps for this cache it will keep the theme going. As she was born in Haltwhistle we thought this an appropriate place.
There are various starting points, but we suggest parking in Haltwhistle. The Quality Fare supermarket car park is free and close to one of the starting points. The walk is signposted Hadrians Walk/Gorge Walk, but the people of Haltwhistle have a habit of turning these signs around. If starting from the Supermarket car park come back to the road and turn left and then right onto Willia road and follow this to the "weak" bridge, cross this and turn immediate left onto the path by the stream. We can guarantee the walk gets better after a inauspicious start. Follow this path to the cache site. The walk right up to the Military road is around 1.5 miles. It is possible to start at the top end of the walk, either from the Military road (if you can find somewhere to park- unlikely we think), or from a path on the road down from the Milecastle Inn. Walk maps are available from the Haltwhistle tourist office next to the railway station.
Approach the cache from below, not above. At no stage should you be in an exposed position.
