Descriptif du Grand Bisse de Lens
Le Grand Bisse de Lens a été construit au milieu du XVème siècle. Il prélève l'eau de la Lienne, à proximité du lieu-dit « Les Barmes » (alt. 1'100 m.), passe à travers le village d'Icogne, tourne autour du Châtelard et aboutit dans le Grand Torrent au-dessus de Chermignon d'en Bas (alt. 980 m.). Il représente un élément historique et patrimonial important dans la région, ainsi qu'un élément indispensable pour assurer l'irrigation des prés, des vignes et des forêts. Le Grand Bisse de Lens suit un parcours escarpé, taillé dans les falaises d'Icogne jusqu'à la sortie de la vallée de la Lienne, où le tracé est aérien et vertigineux dans des falaises verticales. Il se poursuit après sur quelques centaines de mètres sur le flanc de la vallée du Rhône où la pente est plus douce et majoritairement à l'abri de la pinède.
La cache
Depuis le parking, prendre le chemin du Bisse à contre-courant. Marcher environ 20-30 minutes jusqu'aux bancs. Puis prendre un peu de hauteur sur le sentier du Christ-Roi. N'oubliez pas de lever les yeux et d'admirer la vue.

The Grand-Bisse de Lens has its source in the Lienne, and it crosses the communes of Icogne, Lens, Chermignon and Montana, skirting the Châtelard hill, crowned by the Christ-Roi statue. All along your walk, enjoy unspoiled views of the Rhône Valley.
Dating back to the middle of the XVth century, the Grand Bisse de Lens is an important element of local and cultural history in the Crans-Montana region. Like all Valaisan bisses, for centuries it helped irrigate vines and other crops which served to feed the inhabitants of Valais.
From Chermignon d’en Bas to the Lienne, heading upstream, treat yourself to a stroll back in time. You’ll be left speechless by the enormity of the work carried out by our ancestors to bring the gushing water of the Lienne to the vineyards which extend over the lower hills of Crans-Montana.
Thanks to the support of the Swiss foundation for the protection and improvement of the countryside, and the communes of Crans-Montana, part of the bisse hewn out of the rock once again carries water.
During your journey, place yourself under the protection of the Christ-Roi, this monumental statue constructed in the 1930s to mark the XIXth century of the death of Christ. The brave won’t hesitate to climb to the top of the Châtelard hill where the Christ-Roi stands, in order to gaze at the Rhône Valley below.
The cache
Walk again the current on the waterway path during 20-30 minutes. Then, when you see the two benches, take the path to « Christ-Roi » for some meters. Don’t forget to admire the view.
