Whistle Tree

Where the timber grows tall the loggers will hew
Producing wood products for me and for you.
They harvest and leave for someplace else to yard
Leaving behind a landscape that is now scarred.

Long ere the lines were heard snapping as they flew
Controlled by the bug that the whistle punk blew,
There were young fellows who could show you how
To craft a shrill whistle from a fresh willow bough.

While the whistle punk spoke in his far reaching tune
A wee laddie carved whistles in the shade after noon.
He carefully created with his jack knife blade keen,
His magical whistle while the twigs were still green.

The loggers have come and the loggers have gone
And the boy now a man to other things has moved on.
The willow tree has been cut and has coppiced anew
And waits now for someone do you think it is you?
