One of my favorite movies of the 80s was from the summer of 1986. The movies title was Top Gun. It starred Tom Cruise as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, a fighter pilot for the US Navy. His wingman was played by Anthony Geary who was known as Goose. The movie also starred Val Kilmer, Michael Ironside, Kelly McGillis and Tom Skerritt. Maverick and Goose are selected from their ship, the US Enterprise, to participate in the Navy's premier flight program Top Gun. There are many action scenes in adventures as Maverick learns to be a more disciplined and less fly by the seat of his pants pilot. There is wonderful aerial shots, tragedy and humor in the movie. I won't go into too many details about the movie, in case, you have not seen it yet.
There are many memorable scenes in the movie. Who can forget a single woman in the bar being surrounded by many naval officers and being serenaded to the tune "You've Lost That Loving Feeling?" This was popular scene at my college the fall term of my freshman year. It was just college frat boys surrounded us freshman girls somewhere on campus. Of all the scenes that stand out in my mind is one that occurred in a venue that was very close to where this cache is hidden: sand volleyball pits. My dorm was located by the local dollar theatre and my dorm mates and I spent many an evening watching this movie for this one scene. I have to say it just might be the best few minutes of cinema ever filmed.(This was by the volleyball pits when first placed, but the city moved them and I was unable to relocate to the new area since it was too from the original location).
